The Murray stable has been going to the Wagga carnival for at least 50 years. This year it was especially sweet for Paul with Harry’s Bar winning the coveted feature sprint, the $200,000 Town Plate (1200m). Bede won the race in 1982 with Scorpio so it was a thrill for Paul to follow in his father’s footsteps.
Harry’s Bar was given a great ride by Jean Van Overmeire and defeated Love Shuck, who made a bold attempt to lead throughout, and Bandi’s Boy. The win was Harry’s Bar’s third in 16 starts and a deserved reward for her consistency after she finished runner-up in the Gosford heat of the Provincial-Midway Country Championships and a brave fifth in the Final.
