Nothing went right before the race but Fine Mist put her pre-race issues behind her to record a strong win at Warwick Farm.

Fine Mist cast a plate before the Drummond Golf Handicap (1000m), which required some attention from the farrier but the grey didn’t enjoy the replating process.

However, experienced jockey Blake Shinn managed to calm Fine Mist before she jumped smartly to travel behind the speed with little effort.

Shinn eased Fine Mist into clear running early in the straight before the daughter of Good Journey strode home a convincing winner of the $40,000 contest.

"We didn’t need her to cast a plate beforehand, and it probably took a bit out of her too, she was a bit upset,” trainer Bede Murray said.

"She got quite stirred up and I was a bit worried but all was well at the finish.

"I think she’s got a heck of ability.

"I said to Blake (Shinn) she’s got good gate speed and just have her where you want her.”

Fine Mist notched her third win from five starts while her dominant success took her earnings to more than $48,000.

Congratulations to Fine Mist’s owners and all involved with her emphatic victory.
